The Queensland Government in Australia has recently made two significant announcements to propel the development of the 5GW Pioneer-Burdekin pumped hydro project.
A proudly local family business hailing from the Mackay region has secured a highly significant contract on the Pioneer-Burdekin pumped hydro energy storage project.
Twin Hills Engineering and Drilling has won the contract for a six-month geotechnical shallow drilling program, gathering essential data to shape the project’s design and lay a strong foundation for this nationwide initiative.
In addition, Water2Wire, which is a joint venture based in Queensland, has been chosen as the successful candidate to design and plan the Pioneer-Burdekin project’s Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED).
Pumped Hydro Energy Storage is a reliable and well-established technology that plays a crucial role in ensuring a constant supply of clean power around the clock.
The Pioneer-Burdekin pumped hydro project is expected to create the world’s largest pumped hydro energy storage system that can provide 5GW of clean, reliable, and affordable power over a 24-hour period.
With an estimated cost of $12bn the project located in the Pioneer Valley, approximately 70 kilometres west of Mackay is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs during the peak of construction.
