Expansion of Central Queensland Mine Secures 500 Jobs

In a significant development for Central Queensland, the Queensland Government has granted a mining lease for the expansion of Anglo American’s Lake Lindsay steel-making coal mine operation near Middlemount in the Bowen Basin. This expansion is set to create and sustain 500 jobs, providing a boost to the local workforce and reinforcing the mine’s role as a significant employer in the area.

The approval comes as Anglo American plans to broaden its steel-making coal mine operations near Middlemount. The expanded mine, once fully operational, is anticipated to produce a substantial 5.6 million tonnes of steel-making coal for export.

Resources Minister Scott Stewart expressed enthusiasm for the mining lease approval, stating, “The granting of this mining lease shows Queensland’s resources industry continues to go from strength to strength. It reflects the confidence major mining companies have in investing in the future of Queensland’s resources industry.
