Coal Technician: Electrician CHPP

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Capcoal Surface Operations,  Coal Handling Preparation Plant (CHPP) is seeking an experienced CHPP Coal Technician (Electrician). Reporting to the CHPP Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for the electrical maintenance functions within the Coal Handling Preparation Plant in order to optimise the reliability of the CHPP and associated equipment. You will achieve this through collaboration with the CHPP team as well as continuous monitoring of performance against the business plan. In addition, you will look for ways to drive costs down through initiating ideas for improvement while complying with legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring equipment performance to identify opportunities to improve asset reliability
  • Providing frontline response to all maintenance issues impacting CHPP performance
  • Providing support and assistance to members of CHPP Electrical Maintenance department and other CHPP departments
  • Contributing to the performance of the department and working collaboratively with other team members to establish work priorities
  • Experience working within mining or processing plant and with experience in equipment including; Pneumatic systems, HV Infrastructure, Motor Control Centres, Instrumentation, PLC, Citect SCADA.
  • An absolute commitment to workplace safety and comply with all site safety standards thereby ensuring a safe and environmentally healthy workplace
  • The ability and aptitude to maintain high standards of equipment serviceability and compliance with mine procedures.
  • Relevant Electrical Trade Qualification
  • Demonstrated Coal Processing experience, strong safety systems knowledge and computer proficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to build relationships and work in a team environment.
  • Instrumentation Certificates will be very highly regarded.
